Committee working to restore historic campus fountain reaches fundraising goal
The committee working to restore George Tsutakawa’s historic sculpture, “Fountain,” has reached their fundraising goal. After over two years of fundraising efforts, the committee announced in February that they had nearly raised the $40,000 required to fulfill their agreement with the Seattle Central administration. Last week, the Associated Student Council voted to allocate funds to help the committee reach their goal.
The sculpture has stood in the college’s atrium as an impressive link to college’s past since its installation by the renowned artist in 1973. In recent years the fountain, located in the Atrium, has fallen into disrepair. Under the direction of Capital Projects Manager David Ernevad, Facilities has been working with George Tsutakawa’s son Gerry to complete the restoration work. The Fountain is expected to be operational in the spring and the committee plans to host an re-dedication ceremony.
