Let’s celebrate 50 years of being Central to our Community

A message from President Sheila Edwards Lange, Ph.D.

Dear Friends:

Fifty years. Five decades. Half a century. However you look at it, a 50th anniversary is a significant landmark. During the 2016-2017 academic year, we invite you to celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of our community’s enduring symbols of education and opportunity – Seattle Central College.

This college opened its doors in 1966 thanks to the hard work and persistence of people in the community who recognized the need for affordable and accessible education and career training for the city’s residents.

Seattle Central is, in so many ways, a reflection of our city. As it has grown, so has this college, always changing and adapting to meet our community’s needs with innovative programs and a supportive environment. In this way, we have always been Central to the Community, our 50th anniversary theme.

This concept is apparent in a variety of ways:
• We’re Central to empowerment, giving our students the skills and training to better their lives
• We’re Central to activism, driving progress on important issues like race, social justice and inequality
• We’re Central to inspiration, challenging our students to dream big and achieve their goals
• We’re Central to transformation, educating people to bring lasting change to their communities

How has this college been Central to you? Through a series of fun and memorable events, you can share your connection to this amazing institution, starting with a kick-off celebration on Sept. 22. With your support, we can celebrate our past while embracing a vision for the future that keep our college central to the community for the next 50 years and beyond.

Sincerely,
Sheila Edwards Lange, Ph.D.
President
