Employee Parking
Employees
All vehicles, except motorcycles and bicycles, parking on SCCC campus must display a valid parking permit. Employee parking is available as regular (single occupancy), carpool (two or more people), and reserved. Carpool parking receives a discount rate. Reserved parking pays the premium rate for a reserved space.
There are two ways for employees to apply and obtain a parking permit: payroll deduction method and quarterly payment method.
Payroll Deduction Option
The payroll deduction option is available only to permanent employees of the college. For transportation purposes, a permanent employee is defined as an employee who is eligible for all fringe benefits, including medical and vacation. Examples of permanent employees include fulltime faculty, classified staff, and administrators.
Under the payroll deduction method, a portion of the parking fee (1/6th of the quarterly fee) is deducted each time you get a paycheck. An annual parking permit is issued to employees using payroll deduction option. The annual permit is valid from September 16th of the current year to September 15th of the following year.
To apply for an annual permit under the payroll deduction method, please print and complete the Employee Transportation – Parking Payroll Deduction form. (For carpool parking, please complete supplementary Employee Carpool Application. See additional carpool requirements and information below. Completed form(s) should be submitted to Milton Smith (206-587-6931) of Transportation Services Office (room 2BE1112) for approval and permit.
NOTE: All permanent employees purchasing a parking permit are required to participate in the TMP program. You will be charged $10 per quarter in addition to the parking fee.
Annual Permit Renewal:. All continuing employees registered under the payroll deduction option, unless specifically requested otherwise, will have their annual permits AUTOMATICALLY renewed annually in September.
Cancellation and Change: Payroll deduction will continue unless specifically canceled or changed by the permit holder. Please submit an Employee Transportation – Parking Payroll Deduction form to Transportation Services Office, indicating either a cancellation or a change to your parking status. No credits or refunds will be given for any changes that are not reported accordingly.
Quarterly Payment Option
The quarterly payment option is available to part-time and temporary employees, including hourly staff and part-time faculty. You may obtain a parking permit by paying the parking fee on a quarterly basis directly at the Campus Cashier. Due to space limitation, student employees, including hourly and work-study students, are NOT eligible to participate in the Employee Transportation program.
Please make sure to complete the Employee Transportation – Quarterly Payment form before going to the cashier window. This form requires the approval of your department/division supervisor. NOTE: Under the quarterly payment option, an employee may only purchase a parking permit OR a Gopass but NOT BOTH in the same quarter.
The employee quarterly parking permits are usually available for purchase one month prior to the start of the quarter. All eligible employees are encouraged to purchase their permits as early as possible to avoid the long wait lines during the first week of the quarter.
Employee Carpool Parking
Permanent employees, who carpool to campus or the surrounding vicinity, are eligible for a discounted parking permit. Each carpool requires a minimum of two persons, commuting together for at least 50 percent of the carpools longest individual commute distance. Registered carpool participants must be of driving age to qualify under the Commute Trip Reduction Law. Members of the carpool must be carpooling to SCCC campus or the surrounding vicinity at least four (4) days per week. An employee of the college must be registered as the primary driver of the carpool to be eligible for all carpool benefits, including the discounted parking permit.
The carpool passenger may be another SCCC employee, a student, or any other individual meeting the carpool criteria as stated above. Only SCCC employee, however, is eligible for all carpool benefits. NOTE: The primary employee carpool driver is automatically registered in the TMP program.
Additional carpool benefits
In addition, any SCCC employee carpool passenger is eligible to receive the Punch Card for 12 FREE parking days per quarter , and may be eligible to receive the Zipcar benefit.
All employees are encouraged to contact Transportation Services Office for on-campus carpool match service. If you are interested in carpooling with an external/outside individual, a FREE ride match service is available from Metro.
