AS Degree Transfer Requirements

Learning Outcomes

Students completing the Associate of Science (A.S.) Degree should:

  1. Have college-level knowledge and skills in critical thinking, quantitative analysis, and written composition.
  2. Have college-level mastery of information literacy and be technologically literate.
  3. Demonstrate effective oral and written communication, teamwork and collaboration in scientific, mathematical and other settings.
  4. Have the ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data.
  5. Understand methods of inquiry specific to traditional and contemporary areas of knowledge in mathematics and the natural and physical sciences.
  6. Understand the interdisciplinary and multicultural nature of knowledge.
  7. Demonstrate academic honesty and ethical behavior.
  8. Be able to appreciate and apply their knowledge of science in the outside world.

Seattle Central Community College ASSOCIATE OF SCIENCE Degree Requirements

(REV. 1/23/02)

  • Completion of 90 applicable credits with a minimum 2.0 GPA, including grades transferred from other institutions
  • Students must complete a minimum of 15 credits within the Seattle Community College District. The final quarter must be completed at SCCC.
  • Students will need to declare a major with an advisor/counselor prior to beginning the program of study for an A.S. degree
  • Students receiving financial aid who wish to change majors will be required to complete a program change petition with the Financial Aid Office
  • A long-range plan of study will need to be completed and signed by the student and an advisor/counselor before the completion of 45 credits

ASSOCIATE OF SCIENCE DEGREE (DTA)

The Associate of Science Degree (DTA) is intended for those students who wish to pursue a four-year degree in the Sciences.

  • No course will fulfill more than one Basic, Distribution, or Elective requirement
  • Independent/Directed Studies courses will be used to satisfy elective requirements only
  • Professional/Technical credits and/or GPA may not be transferable to all universities
  • Transfer-bound students should be aware that the A.S. degree does not guarantee admission nor does it meet all distribution requirements for all majors at all universities. Consult your advisor, counselor, or the College Transfer Center for details.
