Information Technology - IT
Whether you take a single class, or earn a program certificate, your IT education will pay dividends. The future for those in the IT field is extremely promising: Employment in computer systems design and related services will grow by 39.5 percent and add almost one-fourth of all new jobs in professional, scientific, and technical services.
At Seattle Central Community College, you can explore your IT interests, and also pursue a career in one of six practical, hands-on IT programs that lead to a great paying job and a bright future. You'll even be eligible to purchase software at significant discounts. And while we're on the subject of jobs, take a look at our IT Jobs Board. You'll note that one doesn't have to work in a technology company to work in the IT field
Applications Support
Three quarters*
If you like to learn new software, write directions and take notes, interact with people in a variety of settings every day, and solve problems, consider a career in Applications Support as a Help Desk Analyst or User Support Specialist. You'll focus on installing and configuring hardware and software, while learning how to troubleshoot. Plus you'll become a Windows expert, proficient in creating and using relational databases, spreadsheets, and complex documents, while learning to support users in a networked office environment.
IT Database Administration and Development
Four quarters*
Companies of all sizes use databases to keep track of their inventory, sales and personnel records. Typical positions include: Database Administrator, Systems Administrator, Security Administrator, Database Designer and Database Programmer. You'll get a solid foundation in all of the areas through our new projects-based, hands-on, vendor-neutral database program.
Programming
Four quarters*
Over the next seven years, applications software engineering is predicted to be one of the fastest growing occupational field. If you select our programming option, you will learn to code, test, program and debug using .NET technologies using Visual BASIC, C++, Java and open source development. You will also develop design specifications and test strategies for multiple operating systems.
Web Design or Development
Four quarters*
As a Web Design or Development Specialist, you can express your creativity while putting your technical skills to use. Entry-level Webmasters convert documents from native format to HTML and work with writers to design web pages. Opportunities exist from starting your own web company and doing project-based work from home to working full-time for a larger corporation.
Networking/Cisco Systems

A three-quarter Cisco alternative is available. Network specialists plan, install, and maintain hardware, software and operating systems. They may also monitor network security and communications at network operation centers. In our program, you will learn networking fundamentals through hands-on classes as you prepare to become a Network Operations Technician or Administrator.
