Budget Reduction
A message from President Mildred Ollée
June 2009
Our nation is facing unprecedented financial challenges. Likewise, the State of Washington is reeling from a $8.5 billion deficit that is projected to grow. Back in November, we were bracing for cuts of up to 20 percent for the states community and technical college system. In December, we received somewhat of a reprieve as the Governor unveiled a budget that called for reductions of 6.5 percent. Currently, the legislature is in session and there is intense debate surrounding the budget. We will not know the final amount of the budget reduction until the budget is finalized in June.
In the meantime, we will begin our usual budgeting process, being careful to adhere to our established budget principles. The core mission of the college is instruction. All budget decisions will be evaluated in the light of how it impacts our ability to maintain excellent instructional programs. We have difficult decisions ahead of us as we determine what is best for Seattle Central and the community we serve.
I will endeavor to keep you fully informed as we proceed with our budget process. On this page, you will find budget information pertaining to Seattle Central, as well as links to resources at the District and State Board.
