College works with local non-profit to improve campus safety

A new partnership will help identify proactive crime-reduction strategies that will create a more secure environment for Seattle Central’s students, faculty, staff and visitors.

Seattle Central will soon begin working with the Seattle Neighborhood Group to create proactive crime reduction strategies. The effort has several goals: minimize opportunities for crime; reduce the fear of crime; and heighten safety and security awareness among students, faculty and staff. To accomplish this work, Seattle Neighborhood Group will survey students and faculty and conduct a Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) study of the campus and surrounding areas. Additional work will include crime prevention educational presentations and data gathering and analysis of crime trends. Seattle Neighborhood Group is a non-profit organization that has a 25-year history of working to make Seattle and its neighborhoods safer.
