Faculty and staff dance their way toward a new academic year

New Interim President Dr. Sheila Edwards Lange boogies her way down a soul train at President’s Day alongside librarian Sharon Spence-Wilcox

Seattle Central held its annual President’s Day in September, giving faculty and staff an opportunity to come together before the start of a new academic year. The theme of this year’s event was “New Year’s” – as in “new academic year” – and the day included a packed program:

  • A welcome address by new Interim President Dr. Sheila Edwards Lange, who spoke about priorities for the coming academic year.
  • Current students shared their experiences attending Seattle Central and what brought them here.
  • Faculty of Excellence Awards were presented to two instructors: Valerie Hunt, Ph.D., for her dedication to underrepresented students and to advancing the Applied Behavioral Science program; and Frank Mestemacher, for his commitment to the local community through his work in the Wood Technology Program.
  • A presentation on the library’s “Conversations on Social Issues” series.
  • The presentation of the Classified Development Advisory Committee award to Susan Tsoglin, a program manager for the Science and Math Division, who was nominated for her professionalism, dedication, open-mindedness and student-centered approach.
  • Breakout sessions about faculty curriculum coordination, emergency preparedness and a tour of the campus Mitchell Activity Center.
