Fourth annual Seattle Stand Down to be held in December

Seattle Central’s campus will be the center of veterans support once again when the Seattle Stand Down returns in mid-December, this time for a two-day event Dec. 11-12. This is the fourth year the college has hosted this event, which provides veterans with “one stop” access to a variety community and social services. It focuses primarily on serving those veterans and families who are either homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless.

This is the first year that the event will expand from one to two days. Organizers are partnering with King County to assist veterans with accessing housing programs. On day one, Stand Down will partner with various vocational programs and agencies to provide workshops and one-on-one assistance with resumes, and interviewing. On the following day, employers will conduct real and mock interviews with veterans. Additional resources available will include: pro-bono legal advice provided by the Washington State Bar Association; a dedicated area for female veterans; hot meals provided by FareStart; and much more.

The organizers are currently looking for donations of used professional clothing suitable for interviews, further partnerships with service providers, as well as interested volunteers. For more information on how you can help, email rmurch@theseattlestanddown.org.
