DIVISION Science and Mathematics CURRICULUM College Transfer TITLE Elementary Statistics NUMBER MATH 109 TYPE Mathematics CREDITS Five LENGTH One quarter of five lecture hours per week. CLASS SIZE 32 PREREQUISITE MATH 098 with 2.5 or better or MATH116 with 2.0 or better.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
An introductory course for students who need a working knowledge of elementary statistics or who need to prepare for more advanced statistics coursework, but who do not necessarily have a strong mathematical background. Descriptive methods, probability and probability distributions, samples, decisions, hypothesis testing, statistical inferences, analysis of variance and regression applications.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
To introduce students to current statistical methods and data analysis; the role of statistics in society; and the application of computations, decision-making skills, and mathematical techniques in their everday lives.
