COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Elementary treatment of the differential and integral calculus of simple function - with applications. Applications will come primarily from the fields of economics, business, and social science. Applications from engineering and the physical sciences may also be included.

Many SCCC math instructors promote active learning through small group problem solving and discussion. Classes may experiment with computers and graphing calculators to illustrate concepts and assist in problem solving.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

To present the fundamental concepts of calculus to students who desire only a brief course in calculus. To develop the basic intuitive, formal and manipulative skills of calculus. To demonstrate applications of calculus.

COURSE CONTENT:

Material covered will come from the following general categories: Functions-their domains, ranges-inverses, graphs.
Sequences, limits, continuity
Derivatives--theorems, techniques, maximum-minimum and rate problems.
Indefinite and definite integrals--antidifferentiation, areas, Riemann Sums.
Exponential and logarithmic functions, their derivatives and integrals.
