Seattle Central Community College is a very special place.

--We help hundreds of students find internships/work experience in the careers and majors they are studying.
--We are surrounded by restaurants, movie theatres, shopping and apartment buildings for students to live in.
--We have excellent faculty, staff and facilities, including science and computer labs, library,
a cafeteria and restaurants and a sports center with indoor pool, gym and sports courts.
--Our international students achieve very high grades and have transferred to some of the best universities in the United States (see list), many with scholarships.
We award approximately $100,000 per year to international students in scholarships.

We were chosen "College of the Year" by TIME MAGAZINE. The only community college in the USA to receive this recognition out of 1,200 community colleges.

Community colleges are a uniquely American institution. The University of Chicago established the first Junior College in 1901 as a way to teach the first two years of a baccalaureate degree.

These university faculty and administrators hoped that establishing junior colleges would make it possible for them to concentrate on advanced undergraduate instruction and graduate-level instruction and research. The Junior Colleges would concentrate on the first two years of the undergraduate degree. Junior Colleges grew into what are now known as "Community Colleges."

There are now more than 1200 community colleges in the USA, bringing the economic and social benefits of higher education to more than 10 million Americans and approximately 50,000 international students each year.
