Student Services Available to SCIE Students

Free Tutoring

SCIE and the College Tutoring Center offer free tutoring to all international students studying at Seattle Central Community College. Students in SCIE levels 1 -3 who would like extra help with their classes can meet an SCIE instructor for up to two free tutoring sessions per week. Some tutoring hours are also offered during open lab time in SCIE's computer lab.
College Bridge Program students needing extra help can get up to two tutoring sessions per week with professional ESL tutors at the college's Tutoring Center.

Career and College Transfer information

SCIE and SCCC students can get excellent professional help when they’re choosing their major and planning their studies. You can visit the Career Centeror College Transfer Center
in the college,or talk to the International Student Counselor.

SCIE students will often have classes and tutoring in a Computer lab reserved especially for SCIE students. They can also use the college’s student computer labs throughout the day to do their homework, check email and do research on the Internet.

Continuing Ed

Taking a non-credit class in Continuing Ed at SCCC is a great way to meet Americans
and learn how to do something new. You can learn many things - how to Salsa Dance,
cook Italian food, repair a bicycle, do yoga, or play the guitar!
These classes are very inexpensive and open to everyone.

Conversation Partners & Conversation Club

SCIE students have many opportunities to practice
speaking English outside of class. In addition to working
with classmates from other countries (in English of course!), SCIE students can sign up for the Conversation Partner program to meet with an American for conversation and friendship, or attend the free weekly Conversation Club!

Counseling

SCIE is lucky to have an international student counselor with many years of experience providing counseling services to international students both academic and personal matters.

Library

SCIE students can go to the college library to study,
do research in books, magazines, or the internet,
or read the newspaper – maybe even in their own
language. Our friendly and knowledgeable librarians are always happy to help students find what they need.

SCCC student clubs

SCIE students can meet American college students and have fun pursuing their hobbies
or interests by joining a college club. There are many to choose from!

Sports and Activities

SCIE students can work out or relax at the Mitchell Activity Center. Join in student games, such as volleyball, ping-pong, basketball, or racquetball. You can also lift weights, play pool or take a free yoga class. It’s like a membership in a nice health club! Behind the Center is a public park with outdoors soccer and baseball fields and tennis courts.
