College Transfer

1. What courses do I need to complete before I transfer?
A student needs to complete minimum university admission requirements (depending on the college or university a student wants to attend), coursework in your major, and general education courses. There are usually a minimum number of units a student need to complete, too.

2 . How long will it take me to transfer?
The time it takes to transfer depends on the number of credits completed each quarter,
and the minimum number of credits that a transfer institution requires for admission.
We recommend that you take the full 90 credit Associate's Degree.

3 . Can I complete my transfer requirements at Seattle Central?
Yes.

4 . Do I need an Associate 's Degree to transfer?
No, but especially if you intend to transfer within the State of Washington, it is strongly recommended since the four year institution will recognize the full two years under the Direct Transfer Agreement. If you do not complete the Associate's Degree or transfer out of state, most universities will review your transcript course by course.

5 . I have attended another college/university. Do these courses transfer to Seattle Central?
Many courses transfer to S eattle Central if the college/university you attended is fully accredited in the country where it is located. You will need to fill out a credit transfer form and submit original transcripts to apply for credit transfer to Seattle Central.

6 . I heard S eattle Central can guarantee my transfer to a university. Is this true?
The are some colleges and universities that guarantee admission if a Seattle Central student completes our Associate's Degree with a specific GPA.

7 . Are all S eattle Central courses transferable?
No. Only courses specifically designated as transferable will transfer to a college or university.

8 . When do I apply to transfer?
For public universities, it is best to apply in November for Fall admission.
Private and out-of state colleges and universities have different deadlines, but a student should always try to get an application in as soon as applications are being accepted,
instead of waiting for the deadline.

9 . Can I change my major after I transfer?
In some cases, yes, and in some cases, no. The ability to change a major completely depends on the rules governing major changes at the college or university that a student will be attending.

10 . I got bad grades at another college. Do I have to tell the unversity I want to transfer to that I went to that college?
Yes. You are required to report all previous institutions that you have attended.
If you don't, you will have provided false information, and could potentially have your admission or degree revoked.

11 . How does taking a class "credit/no-credit" considered ?
There is generally no problem taking general education or electives on a credit/no credit basis. In rare instances, a credit is factored into your GPA as a "C".

12 . What GPA do I need to transfer to a University of Washington or Seattle University ?
The GPA necessary for admission varies from campus to campus and from major to major.

13 . Can I use my foreign coursework when transferring?
Yes , but tere will be some limitations based on where the work was completed and the courses taken .

14 . Will my high school grades and SAT scores count when I transfer?
Most private schools will accept transfer students using high school grades and test scores
if they wish to transfer before completing an Associate's Degree. If you tranfer as a junior (after completing your Associate's degree) they will probably not look at your high school grades or SAT results.

15 . I want to double major - what should I do?
At Seattle Central, within your general education requirements and electives you should complete as much coursework in both majors prior to transfer as time and energy permits . Universities and colleges have different rules about double majors, so a student would need to check with the specific institution.

16 . What does it mean to minor?
To "minor" in a subject means to take a prescribed number of courses relating to a specific subject, in addition to your major courses.

17 . What kind of grades do I need to transfer?
The GPA necessary for admission varies from campus to campus and from major to major.

18 . How long will it take to finish once I transfer?
Time to degree is a result determined by the number of requirements a student completes prior to transfer, the number of requirements remaining to be completed, and the amount of credits a student completes each term. If a student completes all of the GE, and lower division major requirements, and a total of 90 transferable quarter units, and continues at the transfer institution full-time, the student should be able to graduate in two years.

19. Can someone evaluate my transcripts to tell me what requirements I have left before I transfer?
As long as you are a Seattle Central student, you can make an appointment to see a counselor by calling or e-mailing.......
