Official documentation of the disability (for example: tests and medical records), may be needed to provide some support services. Deaf Applicants If you are an international deaf student, your educational success is going to depend on the combination of your level of English proficiency, fluency with American Sign Language and experience working with ASL Interpreters. Seattle Central does not have the expertise or a specialized "Deaf Only" developmental program designed to provide Deaf students with English and American Sign Language foundation. However, we can recommend several schools that do have a fully immersable program that have the expertise in teaching international deaf students. These classes are designed to assist you in learning English and American Sign Language and deaf culture. They are taught by trained teachers for the deaf. Some schools use a visual-spatial approach to ESL in a bilingual setting to assist students in understanding the difficulties and struggles of learning more than one language at a time. At the same time these schools also have a larger population of deaf students which allows opportunities for more social interaction where American Sign Language is conversantly used.
