Volunteer Student Interpreting Requests Logo

Welcome to SCCC's VSIR Home page. This site is intented to give you some information about requesting volunteer interpreting services of our students, what our students are and are not qualified to do, refer you to professional interpreters if necessary, and let you request services using our convenient online form

Some general information

First and foremost we are not an interpreter referral agency. We are a program in a community college that trains students to become interpreters in the future. We consider all requests only because our second year students need forty hours of volunteer interpreting hours in order to complete their Winter quarter requirements (Jan-Mar annually). We do not aim to take work away from professional interpreters. Also please realize that the instructors' first priority is always teaching, so this volunteer program - while attended to - will always take a back seat to students' needs and instruction. Please click on the following links for detailed information on policies, who our students are, to fill out a request form, and to get professional interpreters' contact information. Thank you for your interest.

*Please note: This program is only available from January through graduation annually. Also, during finals, breaks, and at the beginnings of terms during Jan-June we will not be checking the online forms due to high academic demand or breaks. For academic calendars please click here*
