The portfolio includes all of the items on the following checklist:

• Each item on the list is presented in the order on the portfolio assignment
• Each section is clearly discernable with headings in bold face type
• The Portfolio is word-processed (NOT handwritten)
• Each information source is documented with a correct MLA bibliographic citation

  (Follows examples and instructions in MLA Handbook)
• Each information source is annotated. Please refer to the annotation guide
  Important: The annotation must explain how the source relates to your research topic. Comment on the quality of the source and its relationship to your topic.
  Additional annotation criteria:

  • Uses correct grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • Describes the source as it relates to the research topic
  • Describes important features of the source
  • Notes qualifications of the author or publisher
• Pages are presented in a report folder

Cover page

• The title reflects the subject of research.
• The cover page includes name and:

Introduction: (20 points)

• Presents clear and concise statement of topic or thesis
• Includes a description of the scope of research (example: geographic region, time frames involved, particular aspects of topic emphasized, factors or considerations the reader should know about this particular topic) Informs the reader of what your research included and did not include.

Topic Analysis: (20 points)

• Leads the reader through the beginning part of the research process by showing them how you analyzed your topic
• Includes all required elements and demonstrates your understanding of how they relate to your topic

Best Sources Section (10 points per source x 10 sources)

• Sources are appropriate to the assignment and to your topic
• Correct MLA citation, including formatting, punctuation, spelling, and elements
• Annotations are clearly written and include required information; they inform the reader about the content of the source, evaluate its quality and usefulness, and explain how it relates to your research topic

Reference Sources (must include 2, not including a general encyclopedia)

At least one each of the following, for a total of at least eight (8) sources:

• Best Books
• Best Periodical Articles
• Best Internet Sources
• Alternative or Non-print Source

Self-evaluation (see Project description): (20 points)

• Thoughtfully describes your research experience
• Evaluates both your own research process and what you learned through this process.
• Demonstrates, through analysis, what you have learned during this course and from the experience of researching your topic

Class presentation on your research project (20 points)

• Presents your topic clearly
• Identifies the scope of your topic and why you chose it
• Informs your audience about the interesting aspects of your topic
• Describes the kinds of resources and describes which ones seemed most appropriate to this topic
