What’s Missing?    

Pulling it all together for your final project.  It is time to review the results of your search so far and to begin pulling together your final project.  Here is a checklist of all the pieces you should have, and areas to explore for further information.  This week and next we will complete our Internet Search assignment (In class on Thursday), look at alternative sources we might have missed, and consider what barriers their might be to finding information on our topics.

Introduction – Paragraph introducing topic and….

·         Provide an MLA citation for a subject encyclopedia article which introduces your reader to background and central issues for your topic

·         Provide an annotation for the introductory encyclopedia article.

Topic Analysis

1.      Identify the academic disciplines, which might include the study of your topic (e.g. medicine, history, psychology, sociology, literature, religion, etc.).

2.      List the Library of Congress Subject Headings which were most effective in identifying material in Online Catalogs.

3.      List the key word terms, which helped you use different indexes and databases. [Week 5-8 assignment]

4.      List the databases that were most effective for your topic [Week 5 assignment.]

5.      Write a brief description of your experience identifying subject headings and key words.

 

2 Reference Sources

This section should contain the bibliographic citation and annotation for the two best reference sources you found (do not include the subject encyclopedia article above). One of the sources should be a print source. One of them may be an electronic source. [This is based on your week 4 assignment.]


Select at least one information source in each of the following sections, but no less than eight in total.

 

  Best Books:

Provide a citation and annotation for one or more of the best books you found for your topic (limit to 3). [Week 6.]

Best Periodical Articles:

Provide a citation and annotation for one or more of the best periodical articles you found for your topic (limit to 3). [Week 7]

 

Best Internet Sources:

Provide a citation and annotation for one or more of the Websites you found for your topic (limit to 2). In addition, please comment on the effectiveness of the Internet as an information resource on your topic. [Week 8-9]

 

Best Alternative or Non-Print Sources

Provide a citation and annotation for the one best alternative information source you found for your topic (limit to 1). This may be a lecture, interview, documentary, or other approved source. [Week 9]

 

 

ALTERNATIVE SOURCES WORKSHEET: After reviewing the resources you have already collected, what kind of information might support your thesis from the media or non-print resources?  (These might include video, music, and interviews –including published interview transcripts, primary resources, artifacts, lectures, Web accessible documents that do not fall into the categories above, organizations, research projects, , etc.)

 

 

Strategy:  How are you going to obtain this material?

 

Product:  What one source will you include in your final project?  (Citation and annotation required.)
