• Describe your preliminary research topic
• Explain what is interesting about this topic

EXAMPLE:

Topic: Internet file sharing: what are the legal and economic and civil liberties issues related to sharing mp3 files?

Why is this interesting? A lot of young people share mp3 and other file formats that they find on the Internet and feel that they have a right to do so.

What I already know: The music industry is starting to crack down on what they think is theft of their copyright. In the news there are reports that colleges and universities are scrambling to develop policies to protect them agains legal action from the music industry. What are the legal, ethical, and economic issues at stake?
