Humanities Resources:

There are a number of websites specializing in humanities resources. Sites that cover the humanities in general are accessible from this page. Below you will find links to those specializing in the following disciplines taught at Seattle Central Community College:

| Humanities | Art | Drama | Literature | Music | Philosophy | Religion | Speech |

Humanities Websites: Voice of the Shuttle: Website for humanities research from the University of California, Santa Barbara; Electronic Theses and Dissertations in the Humanities: A Directory of Online References and Resources (Matthew G. Kirschenbaum, U. Maryland, College Park); and World Civilizations: an Internet classroom and anthology from Washington State University.

Art: Art history resources on the Web provides a comprehensive list of links for both western and world art.

Drama: The Costume Page directs you to online resources for costuming resources. Theatrecrafts.com provides an online glossary to theatre terminology, and TheatreUSA.com is a searchable database providing links by categoryfor theater production, playwrights, actors, producers, directors, and stage managers.

Literature: Literary Resources on the Net is a list of annotated links to online sources on literature. While especially strong for english and american literature, it includes links to world literature as well. Words Without Boarders is an online literarary magazine for international literature.

Music: The University of Washington Music Library provides links to many valuable music resources for both western and world music. While some of the links are avaliable only to UW students, many are not. See especially the online resources by type and subject.

Philosophy: Philosophy Research Base is a meta-index of Internet philosophy resources linking to philosophy sites designed and maintained by Danne Polk of Villanova University. While this site has some impressive features, it is weak in non-western philosophy. For better coverage of world philosophy, try also: Voice of the Shuttle - Philosophy Page. For Reference: The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy and (still under development): Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy.

Religion: Voice of the Shuttle - Religious Studies Page provides an excellent jumping off point for research on religion.

Speech: American Rhetoric provodes a searchable database of over 5,000 speeches in text, audio, and video versions. Improve your public speaking skills with Toastmasters International.
