Part 1 - Receptive Skills - Homework Sentences #1 - Unit 10

English translation : 15 points


Part 2 - Expressive Story #1   (Maximum: 5 minutes long)

Use the vocabulary from the ASL 123 Core Vocabulary streamed video and from the ASL Idioms and Expressions 1 - 13 (see below). Your assignment is to create a story about family relationships and describe an incident/event between two or 3 people in your family. 

1. Create a "mental map" with at least 5 "chunks" that are related to each other (a brief story).

2.  Include in your story the following structures:

Required Structures

A.  At least ten new vocabulary signs from Unit 10 core vocab.

B.  Prosodic features- emotive/grammatical/topic-comment structure

C.  Classifiers in at least 2 sentences

D.  At least one distributional aspect verb

E.  One sentence re: a milestone i.e. 1st time you did something at what age...(conversation function) i.e. "First time me learn read, me age 5.."

F.  At least three idioms (#1 - 13)

G. At least one conditional sentence

H.  Sibling/children ranking

I.  Family relationships - family tree or establishing relationship

J. Transition Words (3) - see below

 

a. Fill in the left column of your worksheet and when you have signed your first draft, have a classmate/peer fill out their feedback (right column) on your worksheet form (click here to get a Peer evaluation/worksheet form).
After you have recorded your first story draft outside of class time which is due on Wednesday, May 4th;  you will be assigned a partner and both of you will switch DVDs and feedback forms to be filled out and turned in at the next class session -
Monday, May 9th.
b. Partner feedback at the next class session:
(Monday, May 9th) Upon receiving your peer feedback and DVD; you will then meet with your partner in class and review your narratives once again.  Be sure to incorporate the feedback into an improved version of your story.
After revising your story, record your story on your own time and  turn in your DVD (must be compatible with Windows Media Player!!) to your instructor along with your mental map of your story and a second copy of the Peer evaluation/worksheet on Wednesday, May 11th.
Print out a second copy of the evaluation sheet (click on Peer evaluation/worksheet link again - see above) and fill out the left column only to turn in to your instructor. Instructor will document feedback on your final, polished sign draft in right column of worksheet.
