Give Reasons, Make Requests, Offering Assistance & Checking If Done

Create and practice several dialogues using different requests or commands with partner.  Be sure to sign clearly with reference points of locations and using signer’s perspective.

Three Types of Requests:
 

A.  Making polite requests (used with co-workers, casual acquaintances, strangers, etc.)

(Give reason) YOU PLEASE FOR+ME (make request) y/n q


 

B.  Making familiar requests (used with family and friends, people you know well)

(Give  reason) YOU FOR+ME (make request) y/n q
(Give  reason) YOU NOT-MIND (make request) y/n q


 

C. Giving commands (used with authority or when angry)

YOU GO-TO, (make request)

 

Example:

(Give reason) (object) "topic" PLEASE FOR+ME (verb)

Example:  ME THIRSTY WATER, PLEASE FOR+ME BRING "a glass of water"




Offering Assistance:

WANT ME [HELP] y/n q
WANT ME [FOR+YOU] y/n q

Response with accept offer

         [YES, THANKS or YES, PLEASE]

Response with decline offer

   ["wave-no" MYSELF or "wave-no" ME, ALMOST FINISH]


 

Checking If Done:

DINNER EAT FINISH YOU (yes/no q) NOT-YET (neg)
PAPER YOU WRITE FINISH (yes/no q) NOT+FINISH
