For Exercise 6.1:
As a class we will do the following: (15 minutes)
1. Listen to the audiotape of exercise 6.1
2. Discuss what the speaker meant by some of the passages.
3. Then partner up, each person will circle in blue any parts of the transcript you have difficulty translating. Circle in red any parts of the transcript whose translation is not equivalent.
4. Discuss with your partners how you plan to translate the ones you circled. (15 minutes)
5. Get together as a group and share your ideas how you would translate the passages.
6. Then videotape yourselves (each partner videotape themselves)
7. Now review the tape.
a. Discuss errors if any on the tape. List it from the taxonomy of errors
b. Ask your partner for feedback. “ “ “ “ “
c. Then redo it only once.
d. Ask someone who is a fluent ASL signer to review your tape and give you
feedback. List it from the taxonomy of errors.
e. Then redo the tape.
Be sure to keep all three versions on the tape. (Do NOT Erase)
8. You will have done this piece 3 times. Do you see any improvements from the original version. Were you or others able to notice the errors and correct these?
