Post Secondary Teaching Experiences

 

Mathematics Faculty, Seattle Central Community College (SCCC), 2005-Present

§    Teaching: Algebra I (MAT084), Algebra II (MAT085), Advanced Algebra (MAT098), Math for Elementary School Teachers (MAT170 & 171).

§    Developed a three-credit math and science methods course for students interested in working with pre-kindergarten aged children. The course, CFS215 Math and Science Methods for Working with Young Children, will be offered for the first time during spring quarter 2008. I will co-teach this class that first quarter.

§    Developed a series of mathematics courses for students interested in teaching K-8: Mathematics for Prospective and Current Elementary School Teachers (MAT170 & 171).

§   Lead for the Applied Math Project-Seattle (AMP-S), Grant partnership with the Seattle Community College District (SCCD), Seattle Public Schools (SPS), Washington Applied Math Council (WAMC), and the University of Washington (UW).

§   Chair of the Interdisciplinary Science Course Committee, creating a series of courses for non-science majors

§   Creating a math/science methods course that will be a requirement for students wishing to earn an Early Childhood Education (ECE) certificate

     Developed a communication link with the two target high schools and feeder elementary schools, facilitated department meetings, made budgeting decisions, and developed departmental policies.  Designed curricular units to meet NCTM Standards and Washington State Essential Learnings (EALR’S).

·     8th and 9th grade mathematics, teaching pre-algebra and Integrated 1 & 2 (McDougall Littell), which is a spiral curriculum containing algebra, geometry, statistics, probability, and trigonometry.

·     Math Olympiad Coach – year long tutorial/coaching of school team, meeting once a week, participation in MathCounts and Math Olympiad competitions, and the Math Day Event at the UW.
