Admissions

Enrollment Steps

Step 1: Admissions

Room BE1104B1 Phone (206) 587-5450 Fax: (206) 587-6321

Admissions will help you with Seattle Central entrance information. Applicants should complete the Admissions process before testing. To complete the Admissions process, you need to:

  1. Complete an application form. You can apply directly online by going to our Online Application web site. Former students who applied and enrolled within the last five years need not re-apply. For more information, please contact the Registration & Records Office at (206) 587-6918.
  2. Submit copies of official transcripts from each college or university. If you have prior college level math and English, it may not be necessary to take all or part of the placement test.
  3. Students who have a Bachelor's degree or higher will need to submit their official transcripts showing proof of college level English and math. If you have completed college level math with a 2.0 or higher gpa within the past three years, you do NOT need to take the placement test. If your college level math is more than three years old, you must take the placement test.
  4. Take the COMPASS Placement Test for math and English. Contact the Testing Center (206) 587-6344, for more information. The fee for taking the COMPASS test is $15.00. We recommend that you test two months prior to your first quarter at Seattle Central.
  5. Submit high school and/or college transcripts. If you plan to transfer to a four year institution, please submit your high school transcripts.
  6. Send your transcript(s) to:
    Seattle Central Community College
    Office of Admissions,
    1701 Broadway
    Seattle, WA 98122

Admissions to Seattle Central does not necessarily mean acceptance into a particular program. Many of the professional/technical programs have additional requirements. Be sure to contact the Division Office to make an appointment with the counselor regarding your admission to that program.

Step 2: Testing

Room BE1106 Phone (206) 587-6344

The Testing Center provides placement testing for the college. Seattle Central is an open enrollment school. This means test scores or a past poor grade point average will not prevent you from enrolling at Seattle Central. We do use placement test scores or courses taken in college level Math and English at another college/university to determine the courses you can take. Contact the Testing Center to find out which placement test is needed and when it is scheduled. All tests cost $15.00 (both first time and re-tests).

The test will take approximately 2-1/2 hours and includes reading, writing, and basic math. Make sure to read each question carefully. You must bring picture identification and know your social security number. You will not be admitted if you are late or have children with you.

To set up for placement, please contact the Testing Center. Visit their website.

Step 3: Advising

Room BE1102 Phone (206) 587-4068

The basic function of the Advising Office is to advise and assist AS and AA transfer students in planning a program of study designed to achieve their academic goals.

Students may make an appointment to see an advisor or drop-in during these hours. New students are eligible to meet with an advisor once they have completed their admission process, including the STAR orientation session either in person or online.

Step 4: Registration

Room BE1104 Phone (206) 587-6918 (206) 587-3807 (Voice/TTY)

Upon completion of the admissions process, you will receive a S.T.A.R. (Success Training, Advising, and Registration) appointment in the mail. During the S.T.A.R. session you will be trained in using the web-based registration systems. Then you will register for your first quarter at Seattle Central. If you miss your S.T.A.R. appointment or you have a time conflict with your appointment, call the Admissions Office to reschedule (206) 587-5450. Please visit the registration website and the Online Information Kiosk

Step 5: Cashier

Room BE1104A Phone (206) 587-3879

Once you have enrolled in your classes, you will need to pay your tuition. Tuition is due within seven business days of your first registration activity or before the first day of school, whichever comes first. Tuition may be paid by Visa, MasterCard, Discover or online. Payment can also be made in-person by cash, check, money order or credit card. The Cashier Office hours are Monday - Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please consult the quarterly schedule for additional hours of operation.

If you are receiving financial aid, check with the Financial Aid Office (206) 587-3844 to be clear on the payment procedures.
